Kwanzaa (until Jan 1) in the United States

Kwanzaa (until Jan 1) in the United States
Kwanzaa is a week-long holiday honoring African culture and traditions. It falls between December 26 and January 1 each year. Maulana Karenga, an African-American leader, proposed this observance and it was first celebrated between December 1966 and January 1967.

What Do People Do?
Kwanzaa is a holiday honoring the culture and traditions of people of African origin. It is celebrated by people from a range of African countries and their descendants. Kwanzaa consists of a week of celebrations, which ends with a feast and the exchange of gifts. During the celebrations, candles are lit and libations are poured. A libation is the name given to a ritual pouring of a drink as an offering to a god. During Kwanzaa, a wooden unity cup is used to pour the libations.

A Kwanzaa ceremony often also includes performance of music and drumming, a reflection on the Pan-African colors of red, green and black and a discussion of some aspect of African history. Women often wear brightly colored traditional clothing. Some cultural organizations hold special exhibitions of African influenced art or performances during the period of the celebrations.

Originally the people observing Kwanzaa did not mix any elements of other festivals into their celebrations. However, in recent years, it has become increasingly common for people to mix elements of Kwanzaa with Christmas or New Year celebrations. For instance, a family may have both a Christmas tree and a Kwanzaa candle stick on display in their home. This enables them to include both Christian and African inspired traditions in their lives at this time of year.

Public Life
Apart from New Year's Day (January 1), the days on which Kwanzaa falls are not public holidays. It is largely a private celebration observed by individuals, families and local communities. However, it falls between Christmas and New Year's Day, when some businesses and organizations may be closed or run fewer services. If you need to do business with a company or organization with an African-American orientation during this period, it may be wise to check whether they are open as usual.

Symbols
The main symbols of Kwanzaa are a mat, on which to put the things needed for the celebration, the unity cup used to pour libations, a candle stick holding seven candles, the seven candles, ears of corn, the Kwanzaa flag and a poster depicting the seven principles of Kwanzaa. The seven principles of Kwanzaa are: unity; self-determination; collective work and responsibility; co-operative economics; purpose; creativity; and earth.

The colors of Kwanzaa are red, black and green. The Kwanzaa flag consists of three blocks, one in each of these colors. Three of the seven candles are red, three are green and one is black. Each candle represents one of the principles of Kwanzaa. The candle holder is carved from a single piece of wood and its shape was inspired by the form of the Ashanti royal throne.

Background
Kwanzaa was first celebrated in December 1966 and January 1967. The holiday was proposed by Maulana Karenga to give those of African descent a holiday to celebrate their own cultural heritage and the key values of family and community. Although seen as an alternative to Christmas and thus possibly anti-Christian in the early years, many people now observe aspects of both festivals.

In 1997 and 2004, the United States Postal Service honored Kwanzaa by issuing stamps depicting an aspect of the festival. In 1997, the stamp was designed by Synthia Saint James and showed an African-American family observing the celebrations. In 2004, the stamp was designed by Daniel Minter and shows seven figures representing the seven principles of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa gained popularity quite quickly. It is now estimated that about 13 percent of African-Americans (nearly five million people) celebrate the festival in some way.

Duke Energy Invasive? vs. BLACK COMMUNITIES NEED TO ADVOCATE FOR SOLAR POWER

All in the span of 3 weeks Duke Energy has been like an Invasive Plant in my Community with a huge new fleet of vehicles and what appear to be temporarily employed people of Color for this so-called weatherization campaign.
Their 1st visit I refused their intrusion. I was busy and had already received an agreed upon box of weatherization products from Duke Energy And had installed them. So the response was "It's not the same".
So I adamantly send them on their way stating maybe my neighbors need your services.
Long story short they kept coming with so many different fancy new vehicles.
Within this time and a total of 5 visits from Duke Energy they sent me an Increased of my Bill, a Postcard notice of an another Visit and while I was away an intrusive sticker on my door (I have A No Trespassing Sign on my Entrance Gate ) and a follow-up personal visit the same day of sticker by 2 of their people.
I was furious! I immediately said Dang!, You guys are like the Gestapo, why do you keep coming like that? I told you NO in the first place. He began to say but Mam, I stop him right then -I said NO! and walk to my backyard. He did not leave right away .
I prefer Solar. Solar which is what I had in California in 1984 and was pleased. I think it is what NC should be investing in.
Duke Energy is full of Trumpite Power and is being very invasive and trying to Suppress Solar Power.
Hoping one of the installers tell the truth on just what is their real mission and if they are installing another cheap dangerous product in Black Homes, LED bulbs were Lead..

I was just thinking Since we have Climate Change Unbelievers what if all these Climatic shifts us back into 1 body of land as before the Continental Divide.
So who gets to send or tell someone to go back home?
We are having many land shifts now. IJS. #Ibethinking
About 300 million years ago, Earth didn't have seven continents, but instead one massive supercontinent called Pangaea, which was surrounded by a single ocean called Panthalassa. ... This breakup and formation of supercontinents has dramatically altered the planet's history.

Winston Salem NC White Men Voting For the Financial Ruins of Poor & Mostly People of Color

I'm having a real issue wrapping my head around how 4 white guys voting against 4 other mostly Black and other ethnic groups Communities and forcing them to even more hardship financial decisions. The City has increased the Water Bills, we are paying increases on a City Bond & a County Bond and now they want to fleece the Low Income and people of all Colors for more money for Transaid rather than eliminate the problem that is causing the issue which is a simple solution. However, because their Communities will not be financially burdened they voted against the Citizens of Winston Salem.
If this is not Systematic Racism I don't know what is!
Mind you the Mayor read the sentiments of the one absent member of City Council which was for the good of the People which should've weighed in on the uncaring white men of the Council.
There were Planning meetings that the majority was against the added Services but somehow they started it up anyway. There were plenty of plans that could have allayed the cost overages that they put in place but the White men didn't care to extend the same courtesy that they would've to their own Constituency to make their lives better and uncomplicated.
Keep in mind these white men have Communities that do not totally rely on the WSTA Transaid Services to get to Medical Appointments.
When you read or watch the evidence you can clearly see that Transportation for the least of these was never a priority.

Petitions, Suing the City on behalf of the Poor may be the only options for these people to be able to buy their medicines or make their Doctors Copays and resolve this.

THE GREATEST LIE EVER TOLD

*****

DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR THIS KNOWLEDGE.
IN YOUR BROWSER GOOGLE -THE GREATEST LIE EVER TOLD.
THIS IS WHY RELIGION LEADS TO ANIMOSITY & SLAUGHTERS.

*The greatest of these perversions is Christianity. Academics knew the truth but dared not publish it.
* Church leaders knew the truth about Jesus but lied to hide it. They know that Christianity is one of many monotheistic religions based on an identical theme and they carried out a ruthless and bloodthirsty campaign which has failed to eradicate the truth.

*The Greatest Lie Ever Told takes the reader on a historical voyage, using wit and logic to reveal the evidence of research that no one wanted you to see.

* The author proves his allegations, presents truth not speculation and shows where the future path of the Church must lie.

*The Greatest Lie Ever Told isn't some vague conjecture, it is a fact.

*Jews, Christians and Muslims have been grossly mislead about their religions. All three were perverted from their shared origins, by politics, avarice and greed.

People continue this following because of the Cult-like nature , or why we continue to see European hair, demeanor is the way to be ,the very reason a youth would join a gangs & most importantly think of ourselves as wretches without researching who & what is the meaning of everything we read or spew out of our mouths parroting just what the Caucasians told our people.

WATCH: Modern Slavery in America

This Salon Talks Video was produced by Alexandra Clinton
You may recall the high-profile case of a young New Yorker named Kalief Browder.

Kalief was 16 in 2010 when he was arrested for allegedly stealing a backpack and imprisoned without conviction — with frequent stays in solitary confinement — for three years at New York’s Rikers Island Correctional Center.

Not long after his release, Kalief committed suicide at age 22.

A new documentary series currently airing on Spike TV highlights how the system and the city failed Kalief. To properly dissect his story I am joined by “Time: The Kalief Browder Story” filmmakers Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby-Nason. During a Salon Talks conversation, Furst and Willoughby-Nason tell me about spending the last two years digging deep into the criminal justice system in New York City — from crooked cops and correctional officers to the toxic living conditions thousands of inmates are subjected to and the many reasons why places like Rikers Island should be closed down.
