When I look at this I too am ashamed that I assimilated to saying that people should only speak English. Just like they beat us & made us take their names ,their religion, their way of life and culture they have taken our most valuable history and cultural lifestyles away.
Just as we had our way of speaking to each other which we still do today and they tried to decipher Our native African , American jive, Ebonics.
When you look throughout history you realize how the European/white man has diminished every cultural ways outside of himself. This does not make them Superior . It makes them Barbaric because of the methods they used.
It is only appropriate to have a second language to associate in this world. Americans are arrogant & lazy and should be made to learn many languages for back in the day people so to do Commerce. Like myself people of color should fight for the right to maintain one's culture in America.
For a person in America to denounce or force someone to rid themselves of their History is sickening, narrow-minded, and forever embedded in ones minds as Racist/ Bigotry. ~ Ase'
